I've abandoned POF and am giving this site a try. POF yielded a lot of dates--but most were more like a job interview than a social meeting, and many were more boring than watching a televised checkers game. I've decided to try a new site and be more discerning in my choices. I've read many profiles where the author heaps self-aggrandizing adjectives on themselves--terms that only have meaning when bestowed by someone else. I'll give a brief relationship history: I was married just 2 months shy of 30 years when my wife passed away from complications due to long-term MS. Marriage was no pony ride for me, but after 8 years of being unattached, living like a hermit in the middle of nowhere has gotten old. I now plan to communicate more before trying to schedule a date. Perhaps then, I can avoid the job-interview dates where I'm interrogated to ascertain my suitability--primarily my financial suitability. On a date, I don't ask a lot of questions, but prefer to get the essence of my date's character by listening and reading between the lines while we engage in meandering conversation. So if your idea of dinner conversation is whining about an army of ex's and the bimbos with whom they ran-off, our date will be a once-and-done thing. I have no desire to be judged and/or persecuted based on the bottom-of-the-barrel guys you've welcomed into your life. And if there's a goodnight kiss and you recoil as if I were a drunken uncle with a rise of arousal in his trousers, chances are we've reached the end of the getting acquainted process. I prefer a mature woman that deals with the man/woman thing in a mature manner. If your profile scolds men with stern warnings about having the morality of rutting pigs, chances are I won't message you. Again, I don't want to be painted with the same brush as the type of guy you seem to attract. All my babbling boils down to this: if we agree to meet for dinner or whatever we choose to do, it's a few hours out of a long life and should be viewed as an opportunity to begin getting to know each other, so be at eaze and don't try to categorize me based on previous encounters with men; give me a chance based on my own merits.
